The third edition of the Greg Smith Macmillan Cup, set up in memory of one of the clubs founder members Gregory Smith once again brought people together to support this worthy course as proceeds of the day went to the cancer support group Macmillan Cancer Support.
The day started with a four man scramble tournament which yet again proved extremely popular. Judging by the numerous roars across the course every team had moments of brilliance in the low scoring format.
The team which included Adam Ridgeway, Steve Dunnage, Steve Jones and Andrew Pilfold combined for the third time in this event posting a brilliant 60.4, a score only good enough for second on the day. The winning team of Blair Smith, David Thomas, Dave Martin and Derek Fisher cruised around the course in just 58.5 romping into first place. Although every player in the team played their part it was Dave Martin that received the most praise from his playing partners as he turned on the form with his new putter popping in 16 of the 18 putts faced by the team.
The evening party had three bands, Muzo Vendetta, Nameless and Light Dessert Highway who all gave up their time to support the event and entertain the revelers as they enjoyed the music and BBQ on the terrace.
Urban auctions and their team again added to the atmosphere with their silent auction of various memorabilia. ‘The Charity event has now raised over 100, 000 DHS for Macmillan Cancer Support’ said Andrew Pilfold. ‘As a personal friend of Greg I am sure he would be exceptionally proud of all the support, effort and kind contributions everyone puts in to this event.’
