The opening fixture of the new season got underway with the Back In The Swing competition. The format for this event is a Betterball Stableford with competitors keen to get their season of to a positive start. As the temperature begins to get cooler and certainly more comfortable for the golf the score likewise seem to get better. That was definitely the case for the father son duo of Ivan and Byron Kraemer who jelled seemingly perfectly to produce a great score of 45 points. This meant they were crowned 2011 champions and claimed the top prize on offer. Five points back but still with a very respectable score of 40 were the team of Ian Broom and Craig McGuire. Third and final spot came down to a back nine play-off between Rae and Angelo Kondes, and Tim Bird and Andy Spavin as both teams finished with 39 points, but with a fantastic back nine of 24 points it was Rae and Angelo who claimed the prize. The two special events for the competition were a Nearest the Pin on the 7th which was won by Shawqi Sajwani, and a Nearest the Pin on the 15th which was won by Dewald Lubbe. The next event to be held at Al Hamra Golf Club will be the 6th RAK Mens Open on the weekend of the 14th and 15th October. This includes chef’s sumptuous buffet on completion of play.
